Abstract:
Investigations into the abundance of Collembola in the guava (Psidium guajava L.) ecosystem were conducted at the Gandhi Krishi Vignana Kendra, University of Agricultural Sciences, Bengaluru. Litter samples were collected from the guava plantation from October to September. The results indicated that litter samples harboured a significantly higher abundance of Collembola population in the second fortnight (IIF) (20.33/100g). Collembola abundance was not observed in February IF, February IIF, March IIF, April IF, May IF, and May IIF. The mean population was 5.12/100g litter. Maximum temperature and maximum and minimum soil temperatures showed negative correlations with Collembola, whereas relative humidity (maximum and minimum), total rainfall, and in situ soil temperature showed positive correlations. However, in situ soil moisture had a positive impact of 54.5% on Collembola abundance.
Key words: Abiotic factors, Collembola, Guava litter, in situ soil moisture, total rainfall
