The Indian Society of Soil Biology and Ecology was founded on 26th November 1976 by the initiation of Dr. G. K. Veeresh, Founder President of the Society and Former Vice-Chancellor of the University of Agricultural Sciences, Bangalore, Karnataka and Dr. C. A. Edwards, Soil Biologist, USA.
The society has organized 11 national symposia and the 10th International Soil Zoology colloquium.
To advance the basic and applied research on various aspects of soil biology and ecology in India.
To promote close relationships and wider understanding between the soil biologists and ecologists of India and other countries.
To provide a medium for the exchange, discussion,and dissemination of current developments in the field of soil biology and ecology knowledge by holding meetings, symposium, colloquium etc.
To publish a journal on soil biology and ecology that includes original research papers on all aspects of soil biology and ecology.
