Abstract:
An investigation was conducted at Agricultural Research Station, Madenur, Hassan district, Karnataka, during the two Kharif season to evaluate the effectiveness of different mulches in preventing the potato tuber moth (PTM) Phthorimaea operculella infestation on potatoes. Among the mulching treatments, the tubers covered with sawdust mulch +spraying fenvalerate @ 1ml/ l recorded only 3.42 per cent damage due to PTM infestation, while the rotting of tubers recorded was 10.27 per cent. The overall loss of tubers in sawdust mulch was 13.79 and almost on par with the storage of tubers with gunny bags, followed by spraying of quinalphos over the gunny bag. The Eupatorium leaf mulch sprayed with B.t. recorded 4.95 per cent loss due to PTM for two months, and the rotting was 10.81 per cent.
