Distribution of litter and soil cryptostidmatid mites’ in Leucaena leucocephala (Lam.) ecosystem
Author: SALEEM SAKHIDAD
Abstract:
The soil is constantly receiving the addition of organic matter, either as leaves or other vegetation debris covering the ground, together with the droppings of animals or dung and other animal and vegetable residues supplied as manure to cultivated fields. These materials rapidly get ordinary soil, losing almost immediately any structure they possess and becoming dark-coloured humid bodies. There was a significant difference in the abundance of soil Cryptostigmata among the treatments. Maximum Cryptostigmata abundance was recorded in the litter (19.11 / 150g litter), which was on par with soil (13.16 Cryptostigmata / 400g soil). The abundance of Cryptostigmata in subabul soil and litter varied significantly over time intervals. Population ranged from 1.17 to 42.33 during F4 and F7, respectively.
