Catalogue of Hybosoridae of the Indian Subcontinent

Abstract:

The family Hybosoridae contains 74 genera worldwide and about 591 described species. However, a large number of species are likely yet to be described. The family comprises a heterogeneous group of relatively small scarabs. Most hybosorids are brown or black, with adults usually ranging in size from 3-12 mm. The antennae are 9 or 10 segmented, with a 3-segmented club. Little is known about the biology of hybosorid species. Various European workers have studied the Indian taxa, and there is no concerted effort to make systematic collections and comprehensively study the group. The following information is primarily an extract from the publication of the UNSM Bulletin (Ocampo, 2006; Ocampo and Ballerio, 2006). Description adopted from the University of Nebraska website gives a general view of the group and may not be strictly applicable to the Indian fauna.
